Summary
1 Information We Collect
1.1 Anonymous Usage Signals
We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to collect anonymous signals about how the app is used. These signals help us understand usage patterns and improve the app experience.
The following signals are collected:
- App launched
- Device discovery method used (Bonjour or subnet scan)
- Which remote control buttons are pressed (e.g. Home, Volume Up)
- Which streaming apps are launched via the app grid
- Connection events (successful connections, reconnections after phone lock)
- Discovery failures (when no Roku device is found)
All signals are anonymised on-device before transmission using a one-way cryptographic hash. TelemetryDeck is designed so that even they cannot identify individual users. No device advertising ID (IDFA) is used.
1.2 Local Network Data
The app connects to devices on your local Wi-Fi network to discover and control Roku TVs. This data never leaves your local network. We do not store, log, or transmit your Roku device information, IP addresses, or network details to any server.
1.3 What We Do NOT Collect
- Name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifiers
- Location data (GPS or network-based)
- Device advertising ID (IDFA)
- Browsing history or cross-app tracking data
- Payment or financial information
- Contacts, photos, camera, or microphone data
- Your Roku account information
2 How We Use Information
The anonymous usage signals collected via TelemetryDeck are used solely for:
- Understanding which features are used most frequently
- Identifying reliability issues (e.g. connection failures)
- Improving app performance and user experience
- Prioritising future features and bug fixes
We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond improving the app.
3 Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to any third parties.
The only third-party service we use is TelemetryDeck for anonymous analytics. You can review their privacy policy at telemetrydeck.com/privacy. TelemetryDeck does not receive any personally identifiable information from our app.
4 Data Retention
Anonymous usage signals sent to TelemetryDeck are retained in accordance with TelemetryDeck's data retention policy. Because signals are anonymised before transmission, they cannot be linked back to any individual user or device.
No other user data is stored by the app or by us.
5 Children's Privacy
This app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through our app, please contact us and we will take steps to address it.
6 Your Rights
Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you wish to opt out of anonymous analytics entirely, contact us at the address below and we will provide instructions for disabling analytics collection.
7 Security
All communications between the app and TelemetryDeck are encrypted using HTTPS. Communications between the app and your Roku TV occur entirely on your local Wi-Fi network and do not traverse the internet.
8 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
